Hi, my name is John White, (also known as JetAviator7), and my passion in life is all things aviation. The love of my life, my wife, was one of my student pilots and together we continue to fly airplanes and enjoy everything about aviation.
Throughout my life I have had many jobs in aviation, ranging from flight instructor, charter pilot, and corporate pilot to owning my own aviation insurance agency for over 30 years. In July of 2004 I sold that business, and today I continue to pursue my love of aviation on the internet.
This website is a continuation of that passion, and I have always been fascinated by the aircraft from the early part of the 20th century. The speed with which these aircraft changed, and the accomplishments of the pilots who flew them, stagger the imagination.
As I study the history of the Sopwith Camel I am amazed that these fighter aircraft actually did battle above 20,000 feet! These pilots had no oxygen, operated in freezing conditions, and flew aircraft that were as dangerous to them as the threat from enemy fighters.
Collecting aviation memorabilia, in particular model airplanes, has always been part of our family. Added to that are the myriad of prints we have purchased over the years. My offices have always been decorated with aviation prints, airplane models have always been on prominent display, and other aviation related items can be found everywhere.
One of the most famous of the early aircraft is the Sopwith Camel, an aircraft that was a challenge both to the pilots who flew it and the enemy who engaged it. Even the Peanuts character Snoopy continued the legend by doing battle with the famed Red Baron.
This website is dedicated to the memory of that famous airplane, and to the men who maintained and flew it. Here you will find many items that hearken back to a time and place in history where aerial combat was as much art as warfare.
